Hall of Famer
and Texas Legend, Nolan Ryan and 10
time Gold Glove winner and future Hall
of Famer, Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez
teamed up on June 13th at The Legends
of the Game Museum in efforts of raising
funds for charity. The event was hosted
by WBAP and the Star-Telegram's very
own, Randy Galloway along with KXAS'
Scott Murray.
Nationally acclaimed
sports artist V. Wells created a special
signed and numbered edition lithograph
featuring signatures from V. Wells,
Nolan Ryan and Ivan Rodriguez.
Each couple that
attended received a signed and numbered
lithograph, enjoyed a private reception
and had their photo taken with V.
Wells, Nolan Ryan and Ivan Rodriguez.
Special Guest,
Marcus Cantu, a young boy battling
with medical needs, was taken aside
by "Pudge" himself and given
a pep-talk, along with one of "Pudge's"
masks. "Pudge" simply told
the boy not to listen to what other
children say if they want to make
fun of him, because he is a very special
and gifted child. He went on to tell
Marcus that he could do and be anything
he wanted to- just like any other
child.
Nolan and Ruth
Ryan also visited among guests including
Mike Cramer of Southwest Sports Group,
Alan and Alec Petsche, and Sonja and
David Desmond.
Sponsors for
the evening included the Star-Telegram,
Fort Worth, Texas Magazine, Business
Press, JMJ Group, Inc., and Chisholm
Club- A Grady Spears Restaurant, Coca-Cola
Bottling Company of North Texas and
Coors Brewing Company.
The original
painting was auctioned for over $10,000
and proudly be displayed by the owner-
or one day in Cooperstown!
